14 year old Ted Christie of Nashua and 8 year old Kayla Ferland of Farmington became State Champs in the nationally recognized Bassmaster CastingKids Competition. The event was held at Story’s Sport Shop (formally Martels) in downtown Laconia, NH on August 23rd. It was conducted by members of Sail’em Bass Club and the NH Jr. Bassmasters under the supervision of Youth Director Ray Meyer of the NH BASS Federation Nation. Kayla and Ted were the winners of local events held earlier in the year and advanced their way to the State “Cast-Off” with other winners in their respective age group. Both will now advance to the Divisional competition scheduled for September 20th at the Margate Resort on Paugus Bay in Laconia, NH. Divisional winners move on to the BASS Federation Nation National Championship in Kansas in early November. Here winners will share prizes of over twenty thousand dollars in scholarships. Open to all young people in two age groups, 7-10 and 11-14, the goals
of this competition are to involve youth in the outdoors and to test the
basics of bass fishing – how to flip, pitch and cast. Each young
angler aims for a target, and scores are based on where the lure lays
to rest.
